Yes, You Can Take Your Dog To Mexico With You!

XolosIt might even win the big dog show!

This is a hairless Xoloitzcuintles, and it is fast becoming one of the most popular dogs in Mexico. VERY short-haired, sleek, with huge bat-like ears, this breed looks like a cartoon character from the grandchildren’s Saturday morning lineup!

For retirees, however, the “Xolos,” as it’s been nicknamed, is especially good. If you have asthma, dander allergies, or just plain hate cleaning up all that dog hair, this is the breed for you.

Many dog-lovers whose allergies had prevented them from owning a dog for years have discovered that the ‘Xolos’ does not trigger allergic reactions at all, and for the first time in a long time, allergic or asthmatic people can have a dog to love again!

Xolos dogs were once common in Mexico, and were, in fact, considered sacred by the Aztecs. Many people, even now, believe that Xolos dogs have healing qualities. It is certain, in any case, that these dogs are loyal and loving, and quick to pick up on any problems an owner might have. They are also playful, intuitive, extremely intelligent, and make excellent watchdogs.

These dogs have long been popular in rare-breed dog shows, but this year, they are competing in regular dog shows. A Xolos dog will range in weight from 10 to 50 pounds, and they come in three different sizes: mini, intermediate, and standard. The breed is hardy, having survived thousands of years in harsh Mexican climates. Sometimes they even eat cactus!
