Why Retire To Costa Rica?
By Jane Goodwin | July 27, 2007
As of this very moment in time, between 20,000 and 30,000 Americans are living in Costa Rica, according to the U.S. Embassy there. Why do so many people choose to retire to Costa Rica? There are many reasons.
Some of them are: Costa Rica is beautiful, stable, and affordable. Retired Americans have discovered that Costa Rica is a tax haven for retirees; Americans living in Costa Rica do not have to pay income taxes on their U.S. Government social security.
In addition, that social security check goes a lot further in Costa Rica. For example, in Costa Rica, a nice meal in a good restaurant will cost around $10.00. You can’t eat at McDonald’s in the States for that any more!
Also, who can afford beach front real estate in the States? But in Costa Rica, beach front property is a fraction of what it costs in the States.
In Costa Rica, you can buy a huge juicy orange, fresh off the tree, for less than a dime.
In less than ten years, nearly 40 million Americans will be 65 or older. In less than thirty years, that number will increase to nearly 76 million. It’s for sure and certain that as inflation continues to rise, more people will be retiring outside of the United States.
