The Turtles Are Racing. . . . NOW! From Costa Rica to The Galapagos Islands!

By Jane Goodwin | April 23, 2007

We’ve blogged before about The Great Turtle Race. We told you to pick your turtle, place your bets, and sit back and watch. Now, you can track your turtle while you’re sitting back and watching! Just click HERE and watch the progress of your turtle, and all the other turtles.

They began on the beaches of Costa Rica, and hopefully they will ALL end up in the Galapagos Islands. Mother Nature has a peculiar sense of humor sometimes; she lets the turtles begin their lives in beautiful Costa Rica, and requires them to swim for their lives all the way to the Galapagos Islands.

Only the strong survive, as so many artists still sing on those oldies radio stations. Even Elvis.

In fact, I think one of those swimming turtles is named Elvis.

Anyway, we hope you took our advice before, and picked your turtle. We hope you gave him a good name, and we hope you’re crossing your fingers and toes for him/her even now. Leatherback turtles have been around for about a humdred million years, and they haven’t changed much from when they had to scramble to keep from being stepped on by dinosaurs. Scientists are predicting maybe ten more years for them. We can’t let them become extinct!

So check the website regularly, and cheer them on.

The race began on April 16, and ends on April 29. In the meantime, click on that link up there and keep track of YOUR turtle.
