Starbucks and Guatemala: That’s RIGHT!

By Jane Goodwin | September 7, 2007

While we’re still on the subject of Guatemala, did you know that this lovely Caribbean nation is the #1 provider of coffee to all of the Starbucks chains in the United States? That’s right.

Guatemala is famous for many things, coffee among the rest, and Starbucks knows good coffee.

Starbucks buys its coffee from several Central American nations; Guatemala is first, and Costa Rica is second. Starbucks also buys coffee from Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama and Peru.

In Guatemala, coffee is the second-largest export product after textiles. I hope you are all realizing that this means that you can buy Guatemalan coffee, and other excellent incomparable Guatemalan products, whether you are in Guatemala or the States.

Guatemala is now the world’s fifth-largest coffee exporter, according to International Coffee Organisation data from this past year.

If you live in the States, you can get your quality Guatemalan coffee at Starbucks. If you retire to Guatemala itself, you can get it anywhere.
