Riviera Maya, Mexico: Enticing Travelers Since Time Began

By Jane Goodwin | April 9, 2007

There are many beautiful beaches on the Yucatan Penninsula, but one of the lovliest is the Riviera Maya, in Quintana Roo, Mexico. Just a little south of Cancun, tourists and retirees alike love the lush jungle, landscape, shoreline, and history. With the crystal clear turquoise Caribbean on two sides, and tons of diverse pleasures in between, the Riviera Maya is one of the most popular areas along the Mexican coast of Cancun, Cozumel, and Playa del Carmen.

You name it, and Mexico’s Riviera Maya probably has it. Water sports? You can take your pick from the tranquility of the white sand beaches to the thrilling adventures of scuba diving, fishing, and surfing.

Do you play golf? Of course you do. The Riviera Maya has many professionally designed golf courses; take your pick.

Do you want to just kick back and take it easy? Pamper yourself? Mexico’s Riviera Maya has many spas with more services than you could name in a hurry. There are also many archaeological sites; remember, this is MEXICO. Mayan structures and ancient Catholic churches can be seen here. There are also various museums, greenhouses, pavilions, specialty farms and the fantastic Coral Reef Aquarium. Do you like dolphins? We have dolphins.

When you are ready for some excitement, you can find that in Playa del Carmen, the major town in this area. Even the town runs along the beach, and you can take our pick of the many hotels here. Really, almost the only thing NOT allowed here is a car; Playa del Carmen is the walker’s paradise. Arrangements can be made, of course, if you have trouble walking. In the city, there are many restaurants from which to choose, varying from the inexpensive to the truly elegant and unforgettable. In the Riveira Maya’s restaurants, you will find fantastic food to suit any palate, from authentic Mexican cuisine to basic American, as well as ethnic foods from many countries.

Come to Mexico’s Riviera Maya. You’ll make memories that will last a lifeteime. Bring your camera. And when you get home, you won’t want to store these pictures on your hard drive or in an album, either; you’ll end up buying a wireless digital picture frame so you can see the pictures every day!
