Panama’s Retirement Incentives Are Fantastic!
By Jane Goodwin | April 17, 2007
If you are considering retirement, and thinking about relocating, and wondering about great places to go, and feeling as though it’s high time you had some adventure in your life, think about Panama.
Not only is it a land of indescribable beauty. . . not only are its beaches unsurpassed anywhere on the planet. . . not only are the Panamanian people the nicest anywhere. . . not only is real estate affordable. . . not only is the cost of living low. . . .added to all of these is the fact that Panama’s pensionado program offers some of the greatest benefits you’ll ever find ANYWHERE ELSE.
Panama’s pensionado program is custom-made to make living, retiring, and investing in Panama very affordable, very easy, and very comfortable.
To qualify for the pensionado program, you must prove that your pension will provide you with at least $500.00 per month to live on. That’s pretty much it; and once you qualify, you’ll get discounts as high as 50% on all kinds of things: public transportation, movie tickets, restaurants, healthcare, medicine, utilities, for example.
Is that it? Nope. Newcomers who buy or build a new house won’t owe any property taxes for 20 years. You’ll pay no taxes on foreign-earned income.
And, your American money is good in Panama.
Come on down. Whatever your lifestyle may be, there is something for you in Panama. City life, country life, mountain-top, beachfront. . . you name it, Panama’s got it.
And it won’t cost you an arm and a leg, either.

The one item that is missing is the overbearing heat and humidity in Panama. It is very draining. There is a solution, but you will have to get some property up in the mountains away from the beaches.

Panama is a great place to retire, and in many ways better than Costa Rica. Why? It is extremely difficult to get services in Costa Rica, such as utilities, a cell phone, etc. Who wakes up when they are 60 and thinks, “I can’t wait to stand in line for 3 hours to be told I stood in the wrong line.” We’ve all had that experience at our local DMVs, but nobody wants to deal with it on a daily basis during retirement. Panama is not the most efficient place on earth, but you won’t be stuck in situations like the aforementioned.
