Oranges, Lemons, Limes, and Papaya in Your Back Yard? Must Be The Dominican Republic!

By Jane Goodwin | October 24, 2007

citrusYou know, many retirees claim that dairy products and fruit juices cause an upset stomach. For some people, this is true. But for many other people, that upset stomach is simply a reaction to a mixture of dairy and processed citrus. This mixture just doesn’t ’sit’ well with some people.

If you lived in the Dominican Republic, you’d more than likely have at least one citrus tree in your back yard. The Dominican citrus is unlike any you’ve ever experience; even Florida citrus can’t compete. Many expats swear that even though they couldn’t ’stomach’ orange juice, etc, back in the States, for whatever reason, a tall frosty glass of orange juice, or lemon-lime juice, or passionfruit juice, etc, doesn’t upset their stomach at all, not in the least, and, in fact, makes them feel amazingly good! Put some slices of extra-sweet Dominican Republic pineapple on your plate and you’re feeling better with each passing moment! Come on, have a sweet banana, or some papaya. Sprinkle fresh coconut on everything! You’re going to be smiling all day long in your retirement home in the Dominican Republic, and part of the reason for that is the fresh citrus growing in your own back yard, or your neighbor’s yard. Life is good, and you feel wonderful.

Perhaps part of that is the laid-back, stress-free life many retirees lead once they’ve relocated to the Dominican Republic. Part of it is the near-perfect Dominican climate, the breezes, the very smell of the flower-laden air.

Part of it is knowing you’ve got all the amenities of the States at less than half the price. Part of it is knowing that if anything should happen to you, health-wise, the hospital down the street is every bit as modern and up-to-date as any States hospital.

And some of it is knowing that any time you want some, all you have to do is reach your arm up and you’ll touch fresh citrus.
