Nicaragua: Land of Sharks, Butterflies, and Volcanoes!
By Jane Goodwin | October 4, 2007
Do you like to fish? Do you like to catch the BIG FISH?
Come to Nicaragua! You can experience Lake Nicaragua, the 10th-largest freshwater lake in the world. Lake Nicaragua is famous for its freshwater sharks, and the lake has great sport-fishing.
With 350 “isletas,” there is naturally a lot of island-hopping. The islands of Lake Nicaragua were created hundreds of years ago when the volcano Mombacho exploded. Today, you can explore this extinct volcano along trails in the cloud forest.
You’ll see more varieties of orchids than just about anywhere else in the world and all kinds of wildlife, including 170 counted species of birds and blue morpho butterflies. You can also take a canopy tour, shooting from treetop to treetop on harnessed zip-lines. And if you click on the link further on in this sentence, you can see pictures and read even more information about Nicaragua’s sharks, islands, and volcanoes!
