Mazatlan, Mexico: Low-Cost Paradise For Retirees!

By Jane Goodwin | October 22, 2007

Mazatlan, Mexico, is fast becoming a favorite retirement spot for expat Americans. It’s a large city - around 400,000 - but it has retained that Old World atmosphere in the midst of up-to-date facilities and amenities.

The beaches in Mazatlan are just as beautiful as the beaches in the expensive resort cities, but a retiree can enjoy a Mazatlan beach for far less money! It’s the same with almost everything else in Mazatlan, too.

American and Canadian expats are restoring old houses and building, building new ones, playing golf, fishing, sailing, living a good life, and spending a fraction of what such things would cost back home. Not only that, they are spending a fraction of what such things would costs in a more well-known resort city in Mexico, too.

Several thousand Americans and Canadians are already living in Mazatlan, and loving every minute of the climate, the people, and the prices. Not everybody retires to a well-known city such as Cancun; there are many other places in Mexico that would be Paradise to an American or Canadian retiree! It’s wise to check around before you decide.

And while you’re deciding, learn some Spanish; it will be of a great help to you when you get here. Learn about the money in Mexico, too.

Don’t worry about the health care in Mazatlan, either. It’s excellent, and the costs are really low, unbelievably low for those of us who are used to outrageous American prices.
