In Honduras, As In All Other Foreign Countries, You Must Have Your Paperwork In Order!
By Jane Goodwin | July 19, 2007
If you are visiting, or staying long-term, in Honduras, it is of vital importance that all of your paperwork is current and in order.
There will be many persons or agencies offering to expedite your papers for you; it is best to go through the proper channels, even though that might take longer. You don’t want to be scammed!
The Honduran agency responsible for issuing residency to foreigners is this one:
La Dirección General de Migración y Extranjeria
Dirección: Anillo Periferico frente a la UTH
Tegucigalpa, Honduras
Telephone: (504) 245-6491 ext 217
245-6496
245-6512
All American citizens residing in Honduras are reminded of the importance of maintaining their legal status within the country. Foreigners who are illegally present within Honduras
(including tourists who remain in Central America past the 90 day stay usually granted upon entry) can be subject to fines and/or detention and deportation.
American citizens are also reminded that since last fall, the CA-4 countries (Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Guatemala) have a new agreement in force that forms a union of
their immigration laws and procedures. Based on this new agreement, foreigners within Honduras can no longer simply cross over to Nicaragua, El Salvador, or Guatemala and then re-enter Honduras to receive another 90 day stay.
In other words, please do it properly the first time, and you will avoid all manner of confrontation and problems. Get your paperwork processed through a valid licensed agency, not a friend of a friend who promises to get it for you faster, but without going through the proper procedures.
