Heading to Retirement Salutes American Retirees in Central America
By Jane Goodwin | September 11, 2007
Americans who live in Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, Belize, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Honduras, or Nicaragua are still Americans. When disaster struck on September 11, 2001, decent people all over the world recoiled in horror, and fell to their knees in prayer or simple respect for the fallen. Central American retirees were no exception.
American retirees and expats who relocated to Central America didn’t do so because they no longer wished to be associated with America, or no longer wished to be Americans. Retirees move all over the world; Central America just happens to be a prime location for anyone who wishes to spend their later years, or their earlier years for that matter, in Paradise.
When the planes hit the twin towers, expat Americans wept, too.
Heading to Retirement wishes to extend our sympathy to all who lost a loved one that day, and we wish to extend our admiration to the policemen and firemen and all who risked their lives to save others.
Whether Americans choose to live in Indianapolis or Mexico City, Denver or San Jose, Ann Arbor or Belmopan, Fargo or Santo Domingo, Atlanta or Tegucigalpa. . . . expats and retirees remain loyal in many ways to the United States of America.
They love the Central American country they chose for their golden years, but the silver years, ahhh, those were spent in the United States. God bless it.
