Guatemala: Pensionado Paradise!

By Jane Goodwin | September 5, 2007

If you are thinking about moving permanently to the Caribbean, why not consider Guatemala as your retirement destination?

Guatemala is very inexpensive, yet it has almost anything you would want or need. Why live in the ice and snow and pay a fortune for it, when you can live on a white-sand beach and pay very little for it?

Middle-class retirees can live like kings in Guatemala, for far less money than they would need just to scrape by in the States.

It’s easy to get to Guatemala, too. There are many direct flights to the US and Canada; you won’t be leaving your whole world and all of your grandchildren behind.

You’ll be able to find and purchase most of the brand-name merchandise you buy in the States. Don’t be afraid to try new things, though. There are MANY Guatemalan goods that are just as good, or even far superior. Be adventurous.

If you want to go to the mall, you can still go to the mall. There are many in Guatemala.

Basic things like food, utilities, and housing cost far less than you would pay in the States or Canada, and luxury items like electronics, cd’s, etc, cost only a little bit more because of the customs costs.

Remember, too, that local markets and artisans sell just about everything, too; and what you would find there would not be available anywhere else in the world. Guatemala is famous for its art.

Come on down to Guatemala. It’s easy to get here. Live here for a while before you make up your mind.

How would you do that? Stop back by this blog tomorrow and you’ll find out.
