Going to Belize in June? Get Your Passport NOW!!

By Jane Goodwin | April 10, 2007

From WSYR-TV, Channel 9, in Syracuse, NY comes this timely bit of advice: Apply for your passport well in advance of your trip!

Whether you’re going to Mexico, Belize, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Panama, or any country not your own (including Canada!), you need to apply for a passport NOW. The usual waiting time, after you’ve applied, is six weeks or more. Springtime is prime application time, so you should allow ten weeks or more, if you can.

Channel 9 in Syracuse had this story about a lady who almost missed her trip to Belize because she didn’t allow enough time for the passport application to be processed. You don’t want this to happen to you. Apply early. Apply NOW.

The lady in this news story panicked and called her congressman’s office for help. This, however, should be a last resort, not a habit.

After you have applied for your passport, you can check the status of your application at the website of the US Department of State.

There is no charge for an appointment at a passport agency. Customers should not pay anyone or any business making such a charge.

If you are planning a trip to Central America, and we certainly hope that you are, please apply NOW for your passport. Beautiful beaches, smoking volcanoes, amazing mountains, and lovely friendly people are waiting for you. Put that new passport in your wallet and come on down!
