Dominican Street Vendors Expect Customers To Haggle!
By Jane Goodwin | October 3, 2007
As you walk along the streets in any Dominican Republic town or city, you can’t help but notice the street vendors, trying to sell various kinds of goods. You can find statues, paintings, jewelry, foods, coffees, cocoas and chocolates, clothing, tapestries. . . name it, it’s there.
The marked prices are good, too. Sometimes, the prices are astoundingly low!
The best part is, no matter how low the marked price might be, you will probably get what you want for far less than that, because in the Dominican Republic, bartering is a way of life.
Never pay the full asking price for anything. Always barter. Haggle, if you will.
In the Dominican Republic, it’s expected.
