Carol Schmidt and Norma Hair: Retiring to Mexico and Loving It!

By Jane Goodwin | September 3, 2007

Carol Schmidt and Norma Hair retired to San Miguel de Allende in central Mexico in 2002 and describe their day to day experiences and adjustments in their 2006 book, Falling…in Love with San Miguel: Retiring to Mexico on Social Security, available on Amazon.com Their website, fallinginlovewithsanmiguel.com includes forums, SMA FAQs and city news, restaurant reviews and recipes, photos, jigsaw puzzles of SMA scenes, and Carol’s blog, where this account first appeared.

Carol and Norma are two amazing ladies who write about living in Mexico on very little money. Their very obvious love for Mexico is obvious from their commentaries, and we can all learn an incredible lot from reading about their daily lives.

Many people go to Mexico for medical procedures, and Carol has recently undergone knee replacement surgery, which is a common procedure for people of retirement age. In the States, this is an expensive operation, but in Mexico, Carol found that the cost was considerably lower while the amenities were the same, if not better!

Please go to Carol’s blog and read about her experience at Clinica Queretaro, where her $40,000 surgery was done for under $7,000.

Thank you, Carol and Norma, for giving "Heading to Retirement" permission to use your experiences on our website.
