. . . And Speaking of Belize’s Placencia. . . .
By Jane Goodwin | April 25, 2007
We’ve blogged before about beautiful Placencia in Belize, but don’t think for a moment that we’re finished. Placencia is too breathtakingly and gorgeously complicated to merit only one post.
Laid back. That’s a good way to describe Placencia. You don’t need to pack very many things: some swimsuits and shorts and casual clothes. Throw a light sweater in your suitcase for after the sun goes down. During the day, the Belizean weather is hot and humid, and it’s light by 5 a.m. Do NOT forget your sunblock!! (If you forget, there’s a pharmacy over by the soccer field, and a little store by Wendy’s.)
But even though the Belizean weather is hot, you won’t notice it as much on the Placencia coast. On the Caribbean side, the early morning sea is completely still. there is no surf. The water is so calm, it’s hard to tell where the ocean ends and the horizon begins. However, by around ten a.m. the winds pick up and you will begin to see some ocean movement. The waves begin gently, steadily increasing, and all the while creating an outdoor "air-conditioning" that will make you forget that the thermometer reads 102 degrees. Mother Nature knows how to cool down her creatures if only we allow her to.
In Belize, relaxing on the Placencia sand, you will have time to allow her to.
This time of year, you should be able to see the whale sharks, who swim into the Belizean reefs to feed on Cubera snapper eggs, as well. Be sure you take a tour at night, as well as during the day. The wildlife will change considerably!
Oh, and speaking of Wendy’s, be sure to stop in for lunch while you’re in Belize. And no, it’s not THAT Wendy’s.
